Artist: Bree Stallings
Artist Statement: Acrylic on wooden panels; done while in residency at Olive Stack, Listowel, County Kerry, Ireland.

Did you know it’s possible to breed a goldfish and a koi fish? And that they can actually remember to up to three months worth of memories, despite popular beliefs? And, like trees, they grow a ring of scales for each year they are alive? (and they can live to be 40) When I paint these fish, it usually has something to do with wanting to remember and be present in a moment and thinking about how the fact is that, like most animals, we grow or shrink depending on the size and health of our habitats.
